Air Purity Testing Every 3 Months

We’ve carried out breathing air testing for several years – but we’ve now upgraded to a digital unit to give our clients even more traceability, speed, and accuracy.

New Equipment

We’ve recently added the Factair F6000 to our kit. This unit allows us to test air purity from:

230 & 300 Bar cylinders
Direct from compressors
Airline-fed breathing apparatus systems

It also eliminates the need for Draeger tubes – removing the risks of glass breakage or contamination and improving digital recordkeeping for audits and compliance.

Why Breathing Air Testing Matters

If workers use supplied-air Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE), the compressed breathing air must meet the relevant quality requirements, including BS EN 12021. Under COSHH, employers must ensure control measures and respiratory protective equipment remain suitable and properly maintained.

Breathing-air quality should be tested at least every three months, and more frequently where the risk assessment indicates contamination could occur within that period.

Poor air quality can be caused by:

Compressor contamination
Oil or moisture ingress
Incorrect flow rates
Damaged filtration systems

If your setup includes airline-fed Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE), the employer must ensure the supplied air is suitable and the equipment is properly selected, maintained, examined and tested where appropriate.

Alongside regular air testing, it’s worth scheduling a thorough inspection of your RPE to check for wear, damage, and performance issues.
