A written scheme of examination (WSE) is a legal requirement for most pressure systems and all steam equipment.
The Written Scheme should identify the components of the system and also identify the serviceable components and their frequency.

What you need to know
A written scheme of examination (WSE) is a legal requirement for most pressure systems and all steam equipment.
For the equipment to fall under PSSR 2000 it must:
- Comprise of a pressure system generally of rigid construction of one or more pressure vessels.
- Contain a relevant fluid (steam, gas or any fluid or mixture of fluids greater than 0.5 bar, or a liquid which would have a vapour pressure greater than 0.5 bar) of more than 250 bar/litres (pressure x volume = bar/litres).
Equipment may not meet the criteria of the above in which case the employer or owner of the equipment has obligations of examination under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998.
