Velocity Safety offers Ladder Association training for people who use portable ladders and stepladders, and those responsible for their detailed inspection.
The User course covers choosing suitable equipment, checking it before use and working safely. The Inspection course covers identifying defects, recording findings and deciding what action is needed.
Both include theory and practical assessment. Successful delegates receive a Ladder Association certificate and LadderCard valid for five years.

What Happens During the Training?
Each course combines tutor-led theory with practical exercises using ladders and stepladders.
- On the User course, delegates practise checking, carrying and positioning equipment, and deciding whether a ladder is suitable for the task.
- On the Inspection course, delegates carry out a detailed visual inspection, record defects and recommend appropriate action.
Both courses include an open-book theory test with an 80% pass mark, alongside practical assessment. Successful delegates receive a Ladder Association certificate and LadderCard valid for five years.
Before You Attend Your Ladder Training
The User course requires no previous qualification or experience. For the Inspection course, delegates must already hold a valid Ladder Association User qualification.
Both courses include practical exercises with portable ladders and stepladders. Delegates should be fit enough to lift, carry and position the equipment, and bring appropriate PPE.

Which course should I choose?
Choose the User course if you use portable ladders and stepladders at work. Choose the Inspection course if you carry out detailed visual inspections. Inspection delegates must already hold a valid Ladder Association User qualification.
How long does each course take?
Each course lasts a minimum of half a day, including theory and practical assessment.
Do I need previous training?

Does this cover fixed ladders or scaffold towers?
These courses cover portable ladders and stepladders. Fixed access ladders and scaffold towers fall outside their scope.

Do trained staff still need to check ladders before use?
Yes. Training does not replace pre-use checks, planned detailed inspections or maintenance. Defective equipment should be taken out of use and reported.
